Discover the Unique Journey of Our Guatemalan Coffee from Sierra de las Minas

While many seek Guatemalan coffee from well-known regions like Antigua and Huehuetenango, WPCR takes a unique path. In 1988, Jose Higinio Gómez and his wife Aura Libia de Jesús Gómez Garcia ventured eastward, closer to the Honduran border, and established their first coffee farm in Las Moritas, a then modest area primarily known for a few potato farms.

Today, Las Moritas has flourished into a bustling coffee community. Spanning over 150 acres, it's a place where hundreds of families have built lives, contributing to the local economy by opening schools and businesses. This thriving area reflects the dedication and spirit of its people. Continuing reading below for more info on this offering and the community growing it.

The coffee cherries harvested in Las Moritas are processed at La Esperanza mill, known for its precise and innovative methods. Here, the cherries undergo a consistent 36-hour fermentation, regardless of the sporadic cold, thanks to a unique heating method. Following fermentation, the coffee is mechanically washed and pre-dried in preparation for further drying using both traditional patios and mechanical dryers, ensuring optimal moisture control.

Finally, the dried parchment makes its way to San Isabel, a dry mill in Guatemala City. Equipped with advanced sorting technologies, including gravity beds, screens, and electronic eyes, and a catadora for fine-tuning quality by removing less dense beans, San Isabel ensures that only the best green coffee is prepared for export. The mild climate of Guatemala City provides the perfect conditions for storing our coffee until it's ready for you to enjoy.

At WPCR, we’re proud to bring you coffee with a story of innovation, community, and tradition. Stop by and experience the distinct flavors and rich history of our Guatemalan coffee from Sierra de las Minas.
