Single Farmer Project Micro-Lot
The Cup
This stunning Grade 1 micro-lot captures the elegant, highly sought-after character of high-altitude Guji specialty coffee. Crisp, floral, and vibrant, the cup bursts with intense notes of dried lemon and perfumey jasmine. Subtle undertones of fresh stone fruit provide a delicate, fruit-like sweetness balanced by a bright, tart acidity and a remarkably clean finish.
The Producer & Farm
This coffee comes to us directly from Mr. Ocholo Bedecho, who owns an 8-hectare coffee farm in the Urga district of Oromia Regional State within the Guji Zone. At 8 hectares, his farm is one of the larger landholdings in his district, where most smallholders farm on less than a single hectare.
Perched at an astonishing 2,200 to 2,300 meters above sea level, the extreme elevation produces dense cherries rich in delicate aromatics and sugars. Mr. Ocholo runs the farm full-time with his family—his two daughters and six sons—and through coffee, he has successfully financed education for all eight of his children.
Variety & Processing
The Single Farmer Project: Historically, Ethiopian coffees are pooled together at central washing stations, making individual farm traceability rare. This lot was sourced through the Single Farmer Project, a specialized program designed to give individual smallholders direct market access, full name traceability, and direct quality price premiums.
The Variety: Heirloom Ethiopian Varieties—a diverse collection of native, wild-harvested Arabica cultivars indigenous to southern Ethiopia’s lush highland forests.
The Process: Washed—Cherries are picked at peak ripeness, depulped the same day, and fermented in open-air tanks for 8–12 hours to remove the mucilage. After washing through clean water channels, the seeds dry under the sun on raised African beds for 5–15 days.
